Nina Barrett



Eight-Forty-Eight food contributor Nina Barrett earned a degree in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts from the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago (CHIC) and has worked in several Chicago restaurant kitchens. She’s also the author of three non-fiction books, including a popular guide to the first year of motherhood called I Wish Someone Had Told Me, published by Academy Chicago. She has freelanced for print publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and North Shore magazine, and taught writing at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, DePaul University, and the University of Illinois-Chicago.

She earned her B.A. in English literature at Yale, and also holds a Master’s in print journalism from Medill.
