Linda Lutton

Reporter

As reporter for Chicago Public Radio’s education desk, Linda covers the Chicago Public Schools, suburban schools, regional and state education issues and the No Child Left Behind Act.

Prior to joining Chicago Public Radio in September 2008, Linda was living and working as a freelance reporter in Michoacán, Mexico. From 2003 to 2005, she was the lead education reporter for the Daily Southtown, where she covered trends and education stories across 85 school districts in Chicago’s south suburbs and provided selective coverage of the Chicago Public Schools.

Linda’s investigation into a corrupt school superintendent won a 2005 National Education Writers Association first prize award for investigative journalism and the Chicago Headline Club’s 2005 Watchdog Award. She received a 2004 Studs Terkel Award for excellence in reporting on Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods. In 2008, she received a Peter Lisagor Award for a documentary on families divided by immigration, along with Julia McEvoy and Catrin Einhorn.

She has produced numerous stories for the Chicago Matters public affairs series and has often appeared as a guest on Eight Forty-Eight weekday newsmagazine. Her work has also appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, Education Week, In These Times and Proceso newsmagazine in Mexico.

Linda has a B.A. in Urban Studies and English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Born and raised in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota, Linda resides in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago with her husband, Hector, and three children.
